On Tuesday 7th May, the great and good from the Worldwide marine industry gathered at the acclaimed London Hotel, The Corinthia as featured on the recent BBC documentary, ‘A Hotel for The Super Rich & Famous’.

The hotel’s stunning ballroom played host to the annual Motor Boat of The Year Awards hosted by TI Media’s iconic publication, Motor Boat & Yachting Magazine.

After a sensational meal designed by Executive Chef André Garrett, MBY Editor & Deputy Editors Hugo Andreae and Jack Haines took to the stage to commence proceedings. The evening’s formalities began with a poignant video tribute to Sunseeker Founder Robert Braithwaite, CBE, DL who passed away earlier this year, with Hugo inviting guests to take a look back at“the best ambassador our industry has ever had”.

As the evening continued, Sunseeker were thrilled to be presented with the award for ‘Sportscruiser over 45ft’ to the head-turning Predator 50. The judges commented “The market may demand a bigger, more voluminous 50ft (15m) sportscruiser than Sunseekers of old but the Predator 50 meets those requirements in the inimitable Sunseeker way. With those dramatic slashes in the topsides and vast quantities of glazing in the superstructure sides and roof, it demands attention”.

Hugo and Jack’s extremely entertaining double act continued through to the Judge’s Special Award which was presented to long-time contributor to the Sunseeker Family, Fabio Buzzi. Fabio Buzzi isn’t just the most successful powerboat racer of our era (or possibly ever), he’s also a brilliant designer, engineer, boat builder and innovator.

He has won almost every major powerboat race on the planet from marathon events like the Round Britain Race, to the Class 1 Offshore World Championship and the terrifying Pavia to Venice river race, all in vastly different boats that he’s designed and built in his own factory. To put that in perspective it’s like Lewis Hamilton winning the F1 title, the World Rally Championship and the Le Mans 24-hour race, in cars that he’s personally created.

On accepting his award Fabio spoke passionately about his relationship with Sunseeker, which saw him first collaborating on Sunseeker’s outrageous XS 2000, seen here in the Bond movie ‘Casino Royale’.

The latest Buzzi sensation to grace the Sunseeker range is the all-new Hawk 38’. Due to be officially launched at Southampton and Cannes Boat Shows later this year, the Hawk prototype test was captured by MBY on Lake Como, being driven by Fabio Buzzi himself!
